The Band returnd to the traditional festive Christmas Evening in the midst of Barnes Village to play carols and seasonal music. We were outside Rose House, by the Christmas Tree! Very, very cold …..brrr… we soooo appreciated the prosecco and refreshments inside afterwards – thank you Barnes Community Association!

The Band again took part in the service of Remembrance, accompanying hymns and playing commemorative music, “Solemn Melody” and “Songs That Won The Wars”.

Ten years after the London Olympics, the Band was honoured to play with The Games Maker Choir at a very special event, featuring the Choir and other artistes. We played “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” and “Selections from Hairspray” from our summer repertoire, and arrangements of the Choir’s music, created by our wonderful friend, Evin Frost.

The Band returned to Central London to take part in this annual festival, at the iconic bandstand, as the nation mourned the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. We played “Solemn Melody” to acknowledge the sombre mood, then our planned programme: “Folk Song Suite” (Vaughan Williams), “Selections from Hairspray”, “Singin’ In The Rain”, “Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown”, “Slavonic Dance IV” (Dvorak), “Highlights from ‘Yesterday'”, “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “Plymouth Hoe”, “The Shepherd’s Song” (solo Steph Scrivener), “Gee Office Krupke”, “Champions”, “Soul Bossanova”, “Three Klezmer Dances”, then, poignantly, we finished with our first performance of the National Anthem as “God Save The King”.

After 3 years we were back at the Barnes Fair, closing the show with our summer favourites. Members of the Band love this gig under our tree by Gail’s bakery and entertaining the good folk – especially the children – of Barnes. We played FlexBand favourites, with an accordion/percussion interlude from Steph and Clive, then they were joined by oboe (Catriona) and bassoon (Susie) for folksongs to close the gig. Bravo all!

Members of the Band and our flute group had a gorgeous morning in the sunshine, next to Gail’s bakery. We played children’s-themed music as part of the Barnes Children’s Literature Festival.
After the most extraordinary pandemic year of Covid-19, and in between lockdown and Tier 4, the Band carefully played socially-distanced carols at the Barnes Village Christmas evening, and at St. Michael’s Church. Very special.
