The Band’s Flute and Saxophone Ensembles supported the Open Gardens day in Sheen on Sunday 9th June. The weather was a bit dodgy but the gardens looked absolutely beautiful! It was a fundraiser for the FiSH charity which supports older and vulnerable people in the local community. The musicians were rewarded with Pimm’s and chocs, very much appreciated!
It was a chilly morning on Barnes Green but players from the Band brightened the Children’s Literature Festival with a selection of family-friendly music. The Band’s flute section made their debut performance as an ensemble and crowds gathered to hear favourites including Mary Poppins, The Mexican Hat Dance, and There Once Was an Ugly Duckling complete with realistic quacks! Thanks to everyone for their support.
Remember it’s just the mini-band and flutes for the Barnes Children’s Literary Festival tonight! [And please remember it’s time to pay those subs for this term ….]
Daryl and Andrea joined other local societies on Saturday at the OSO Arts Centre to help promote the range and diversity of community organisations in Barnes.
Daryle encouraging a potential new member to join the Band
It was a very worthwhile morning meeting new people and coming up with ideas for future collaborations with other arts and musical societies in the area.
We didn’t manage to recruit a French Horn or Euphonium player though. They must be out there somewhere!
The Barnes Concert Band are performing in smaller groups at the opening of the 2019 Barnes Children’s Literacy Festival. We’ll be on the green by the duckpond from around 10 am on Saturday 11th May, playing jolly family-friendly music for a couple of hours. Come and say hello!
Note from our Band Secretary: a reminder that there are no rehearsals on April 16th or 23rd – we meet again on April 30th, when we’ll have the EGM [see Susie’s email for details]. And the rehearsal on May 7th is only for those taking part in the Barnes Children’s Literary Festival on Saturday May 11th.
